Diving
With the wide range of abilities and interests within the club membership, it is a challenging job for the Diving Officer to plan a calendar of diving activity which keeps everyone happy. But we do try!
We dive throughout the year. From late Spring until late Autumn we dive every other weekend. Favourite sites include Plymouth, Portland, Swanage and Brixham. New sites are always being sought and added to our list of potential locations. In the summer, we venture further afield. We usually have two domestic club holidays per year although we have also been known to arrange foreign holidays too. Most weekends are whole weekends and divers often camp or stay in local hotels or B&B's and dive on both the Saturday and Sunday.
Diving is usually from our own club RIB, or sometimes a hard boat or the shore and can be on wrecks or reefs.
In winter months, we tend to stick to local inland sites. You can't beat Wraysbury or Vobster in January! But, that doesn't mean we neglect the sea. Weather permitting, we can often be found somewhere off the south coast in some of the more sheltered locations including Swanage and Chesil Cove.
Cirencester is just a couple of minutes away from the Cotswold Water Park and the second monday in the month sees a regular night dive in one of the more sheltered lakes there. Lake 12 is also where we meet for the occasional BBQ and the yearly pumpkin carving and fireworks.
Diving is from our own club rib - Top Banana, a hard boat or shore and can be on wrecks or reefs.
Training and Crossovers
If you have never dived and would like to learn, we can accomodate you. We also offer crossover courses if you are already qualified with another diving organisation and wish to join us. More information can be found in our Learn to Dive section.
Experience
All dives are marshalled by an Advanced Diver or experienced Dive Leader. All our cox'n have boat handling qualifications. Whether at the coast or inland, safety is our prime concern. Some dives are intended for training and some are aimed at our more experienced divers. For safety, we encourage the use of Nitrox where the diver has previously received adequate training in it's use.
